Voyatlas v1.1.0 is here, and is our first major update since launch. We've added snorkeling and diving spots, location information, and expanded wildlife data. Here's what's changed since the initial release, and what these new features enable.
Quick Recap: What v1.0.0 Launched With
When we launched v1.0.0, users had access to the interactive map, and could find tours and respective fish species information on a per-tour basis.
v1.0.0 Features
- Interactive Map: Click around the map to find tours and see what's available in different regions.
- Dynamic Sidebar: The sidebar updates with tour info, species details, and media as you explore the map.
- Basic Login: Create an account to save your favorite tours.
- Location Search: Search for any location and see tours nearby.
- Species Search: Look up a specific species and find tours where it's been spotted.
What's New in v1.1.0
This update brings some of the most requested features, plus a bunch of improvements that make your experience more seamless and informative.
Diving and Snorkeling Spots
The map now shows diving and snorkeling spots. Each spot contains the same detailed species overview that tours do, and has additional insight such as the composition of the ocean floor, as well as depth and other useful information relevant to you.
Location Information
We replaced the media sidebar with something much more informative. Now you can check:
- Historical Weather: See what the weather's typically like during each month.
- Wave Data: Gives insight into wind and general conditions.
- Rainfall: High rainfall generally means low visibility, and vice versa.
- Clarity Get an idea of the average water visibility you can expect at each location.
Mammals and Reptiles
We've expanded beyond just fish. Now each tour and snorkel/dive spot contains details about the mammals and reptiles found in the area, as well as mammal seasons and species rarity.
- Marine Mammals: Whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions—all with behavior patterns and habitat info.
- Whale Seasons: See when specific whale species are most likely to show up in different areas.
- Marine Reptiles: Sea turtles, marine iguanas, and others, including their respective rarity in that area.
New Login Options
Two changes here:
- Login Required: This addition helps to protects Voyatlas from abuse, and allows us to save your preferences and favorites in a more secure manner.
- Google Sign-In: You can sign in or create an account using your existing Google account (finally!) instead of creating another password to remember.
Other Improvements
We also fixed and improved a bunch of stuff behind the scenes, including:
- Load times
- Responsiveness
- Search accuracy
- Interface cleanliness
- Image loading speed
- and more...
